The majestic jaguar is a symbol of power for many cultures like mezoamerican and  latin American cultures, it represents the energy of nature and is considered a protector of the jungle. This magnificent feline can be found in many countries, from Mexico to Argentina, while Brazil is home to around half of all wild jaguars in the world. Its habitats include moist and dry forests, savannahs and shrublands. The jaguar is a strong swimmer and climber and depends on healthy freshwater systems and access to large areas of territory to survive.

The jaguar plays an important role in maintaining the structure and function of the ecosystems it inhabits. As a large predator, it helps maintain balance in the food chain where it lives, playing a key role in controlling populations of other species and promoting healthy ecosystems. Therefore, a conservation strategy focused on the jaguar can serve as an effective umbrella for a set of species.

Due to decreased territory and therefore less access to its natural prey, the jaguar has begun to look for food elsewhere. Livestock living on lands once inhabited by jaguars often become food for hungry jaguars, who are forced to feed on these domesticated animals instead of their natural prey. As a result, farmers kill jaguars in retaliation or in a preemptive attempt to protect their property.
