The Macaw (Ara-Araraunas) is a species of psittaciformes bird found in South and Central America. They live in varied habitats ranging from tropical humid forest, rainforest to dry savannah and live mainly in forests near river beds specially los aguajales(mauritia flexuosa plantations).
They are omnivorous birds, that is, they eat almost anything: seeds, vegetables, fruit, berries, insects, leaves, flowers… However, the basis of their diet is fruits and seeds, although they can also eat larvae and insects that provide them with that contribution of extra proteins necessary in your diet. Approximately between 15-30% of your diet will be made up of proteins, while the rest will correspond to matter of plant origin.
It is also common to see them pecking at the clay on the banks of tropical rivers, rich in mineral salts necessary for the metabolism of these birds.
